Hot and cold thermal insulation:

One of the most important parameters, among others, in selecting insulation is the range of operating temperature. A specific range of operating temperature for each insulation is defined depends on it material. It means that the insulation can work better in this range. Additionally, some of the insulations will lose their features if they are employed in an environment which has temperature out of their range. In particular, Polyolefin insulation, which is among the Thermoplastic insulation, will undergo a severe plastic reformation if it is exposed to a temperature higher than its range. Therefore, before insulating the condition and the ambient temperature of the aimed system must be specified. Furthermore, insulations as to their range of operating are classified into followings: Cold, Warm, Refractory.

Warm thermal insulation:

They are principally used for insulating of areas and those equipment which has higher temperature in comparison with ambient temperature. Additionally, these insulations can be used as specialized insulations for walls and ceilings. They can also be used for the insulation of hot transfer lines like: HVAC rooms and heating systems. The operation temperature range for these insulations are between -25oC to 850oc. The common material of Warm thermal insulation in market is presented in the opposite table.

Cold thermal insulation:

Cold thermal insulation are primarily used for the insulation of Ventilation systems lines and gas or liquid Ducts. In general, these kinds of insulations has very low Penetration coefficient of water and steam, therefore, they prevent from the

condensation (cooling) of vapor. These properties are the most favorable for insulation of fridges and introduce an ideal insulation. The operational temperature for them on average is between -100oC to 100oc. If the temperature of ambient or

Transfer pipeline dose not trespass the range, they can be used in the insulation of Heat pipelines such as Radiator and HVAC room. However, among other widespread Cold thermal insulation in market, Elastomeric foam NBR & EPDM, Polystyrene EPS/XPS, Polyethylene foam EPE/XPE, Glass foam, Phenol and etc can be mentioned.

Refractory insulation:

These kinds enjoy the capability of resistance to extremely high temperature and primarily are employed in particular industries like Melting furnace and also can be used as Fireproof Insulation. The very popular material in market for this class is V which has the capability of being resistant to temperatures close to 1650oC. However, some of the particular kinds of stone wool can also withstand such high temperatures.
